"WOW - The Photography Institute is a wonderful way to study. I work full time but yet I could study at my own pace at home or on the road. The course has given me so much more confidence to get out there & pursue my chosen field of photography.
I now know how to use my camera & equipment to the full limits. Before starting this course I always shot on"P" mode & in JPEG, but now I shoot in RAW & use my manual settings. I never had the confidence to do it any other way until now. This course is very thorough.
I have always dreamed of starting my own photography business and with this course behind me I have no doubt in my mind that I can do it! My tutor was always there for me 24/7 whenever I needed help. The student support was also fantastic.
I can't recommend the Photography Institute highly enough, you guys are fantastic and I have no hesitation what so ever in recommending anyone to do your course. Thank you so SO much..."
...Debbie Hart, Alexandra.
"I loved this course! If you are a beginner or a pro, you will find something in this course to stimulate and develop your existing skills. Each module is written clearly and has everything within it for you to complete each assignment. Support from the general support team and your tutor is just excellent, and any problems are sorted out very, very quickly. Having the online format, not only means you can work at your own pace, but take your course with you wherever you go!
Getting to know my camera and how to take better photos were the highlight for me, but also I have now gained confidence from having my work seen and critiqued by professionals.
Due to gaining the diploma from this course, I am now able to work in a photographic field, which was not open to me before.
Thank you!..."
...Flynn Fletcher-Dobson, Wellington.
"Diploma in Professional Photography, TICK!
I began the Diploma in Professional Photography after buying myself a new DSLR. Now as an aspiring Photographer, I didn't want to take your standard `auto' shots or take photos using the basic `landscape' settings. What I wanted, was to really get into the photography, really get photos that made people say WOW! And so it all began...
From Module 1 through to Module 12, it was a learning curve that was close to vertical! I now understand why my camera manual made an encyclopedia look small! I'm no longer shooting in auto mode, I have learned the do's and don'ts of lighting, and best of all, i have been taught to take in my surroundings, to really think about the shot before I capture it. I have thrived with the help of the friendly tutors who are on hand 24/7 to give you the advice and guidance you need and I have shared my photos and my thoughts with other students via the Photography Institute Facebook page. This was a great way to connect with other students who like you and me, LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY!
Thanks to my diploma, I have now started working as a Photographer/guide for a NZ wildlife company and get to spend everyday photographing the amazing marine wildlife NZ has to offer. To anyone thinking about doing this course, I would fully recommend it! It will give you the desire AND the tools to better yourself and take your photography to the next level and beyond..."
...Paul Luxton, Picton.

"I come from a completely different background / career, but having loved photography for so long, I have recently decided to give it a chance and get into the professional photography world.
I knew what I wanted and was aware of the long journey that would take me there. However, I didn'?t know where and how to start. I believe signing up for this course was the best decision I could have made at the time as it helped me to achieve what I was after i.e. get the necessary knowledge for making my very first step in that journey and establish a clear direction for going forward.
The course material is packed with knowledge, valuable experience of the author, useful recommendations to further reference on all of the key topics, should of interest to explore more, and a delightful sense of humour. It's certainly delivered to my objective to gain a solid base when it comes to understanding what is behind a good photography, how to be in control of the camera, the role of the latest technology in the post production, how to get about making money from photography and the list goes on...
I also truly enjoyed the practical aspects of the course particularly because of the opportunity to be critiqued by a professional Photographer. My tutor has been brilliant - her feedback was always timely, thorough and packed with valuable advice, furthermore, supportive and encouraging. That on its own helped me to improve my work, subsequently boosted my confidence and made me realize the specialty areas I'?d like to move into.
Last and not least, this course combines the best of both worlds when it comes to ways to learn - self pace and yet incredibly helpful and prompt support whenever needed. With all that said, it'?s not a surprise that I've kept raving about my course to friends and I would highly recommend it to anybody out there who wants to get seriously into the photography or simply wants to brush up the skills. Thanks again to the fantastic Team at The Photography Institute..."
...Tanja Bandzova, Takapuna.
"I spent years reading photography magazines and books thinking I knew a thing or two about photography when in reality often this only made me confused and lacking in direction. This was when I decided to look for some formal training.
Without a question The Photography Institute’s course is for anyone who is serious about photography, from the absolute novice to the working Pro. The course is about so much more than just the pictures or how to use a DSLR and it takes you on a comprehensive journey into the world of photography (past, present and the future...) and everything that this entails.
The course leaves nothing left unturned and demystifies the complexities of digital photography and the industry that surrounds it. After completing this course my photography is infinitely better than it was before I started, my confidence is sky high and I can hold my own when it comes to photography conversations with the Pro’s.
If all the tutors are as conscientious and professional as mine (Matt Evans) then you really cant get better value for money! I can’t fault the balanced feedback (usually back within a few hours!) and direction from someone who actually makes a living from photography. I also had the pleasure of utilising the support staff who were equally as professional.
I currently work full time in a totally different industry and found fitting this course into my busy lifestyle was easy, especially when publications started noticing my work on the Internet and offered to put some photos into print..."
...Richard Hayton, Auckland.

"Before signing up to the Photography Institute I was really uncertain and sceptical about doing the course. I had searched the Internet and honestly couldn't find out much about it at all. I found some message boards with people wanting to know if it was an Internet scam or if anyone had actually completed the course.
Well I have completed all 12 assignments and I can assure you it is a totally legit and worthwhile course! It is especially great for anyone like me who doesn't have the time to study with a conventional method. I was able to study when I wanted to and had the time.
Over the 12 assignments the course covers everything there is to know about photography. Some of this is stuff that I wouldn't have really thought would be important, like seriously how hard is it to take photos right? Well I was wrong and to be honest I'm a bit embarrassed by the photos I took before starting this course, I used to think they were pretty good, but now I know better and I see all the many imperfections.
After completing this course I now know the do's and don?t's and I have taken fantastic photos which I'm considering selling. I fully recommend The Photography Institute, there's so much more to photography than just point n shoot...!"
...Chris Topless, Bell Block.

"Selecting to do a photography course through the Photography Institute has been well worth the effort as it has allowed flexibility around both family and work.
As an amateur with a passion for photography it has allowed me to develop my style, technique and areas of interest.
The highlight for me was also learning how to use Photoshop, a steep learning curve but well worth all of the effort. The course has also been useful in learning what suitable photography equipment I needed to purchase/borrow that would suit me now and in the future, without wasting money on things that would not have been suitable or versatile.
Overall I have enjoyed the course, learnt a lot and would recommend it to both professional and amateur Photographers..."
...Sharon Wright, Whitianga.

"I'm new to photography and only picked up a DSLR for the first time about a year ago, when my brother handed me his Nikon and said"photograph my wedding". I quickly discovered that this was a lot of fun (even on auto mode) and went out and bought my own DSLR.
After a couple of weeks of reading the manual I realised it was going to take a long time to get anywhere without help, there wasn't even an 'Auto Mode' on my model!
I discovered this course online and signed up as I needed something flexible time-wise as I work full time. The first modules really taught me how to 'drive' my camera and it hasn't been in 'Program' mode since!
The course covers much more than just camera and photography techniques, it makes you think about what gear you need and why, and how to approach photography as a career and business.
This photography course does everything it says on the packet. If only I could go back and shoot that wedding again now....."
...Nik Player, Greytown.

"I have always had a keen interest in photography, but having chosen a different working career and a family meant I could not indulge it to the extent I wanted.
Entering a phase of life where I could think about photography as an occupation or serious hobby meant that there were many years of technology and techniques to catch up with. I am glad I chose the Photography Institute to study with and bring my knowledge and skills up to modern standards.
The course materials were detailed and realistic and provided a great insight into not only the technology and art of photography, but what to expect in the real world.
The tutor and staff were helpful and very prompt with assistance and marking assignments. My best wishes to the staff at the Photography Institute..."
...Lorne Douglas, Christchurch.

"What a voyage of discovery I have just travelled. The Institute has wet my appetite and I need more! I thought I was OK as a Photographer until I began Module 1 and moved through the other 11.
From being a former teacher and principal I became pupil and learner and it was a great feeling as I eagerly awaited my tutor's scorecard and written comments following each assignment!
Assignments were marked promptly, professionally presented and always succinct, well directed and offered many points to consider and to be guided on. My thanks to Matt for such a tremendous job and for your positive encouragement.
Previously I had greatly underused my camera equipment and now I am definitely giving that investment real value. My depth of knowledge and skill level has increased markedly along with a high level of self confidence in my own ability to take successful images.
The investment in the course and its tangible outcomes for me has and will continue to be of high value. Thank you to the team at the Photography Institute..."
...Les Osten, New Plymouth.

"Ever since the first point and shoot camera came into my hands, I've wanted to learn more about photography. I'm a graphic designer and I was always looking at photography from an artistic point of view.
Two years ago I bought my first DSLR, and truly realised what I'd been missing. I began teaching myself and gained much from a lot of sources, but still I needed to do something to fill in the gaps and when I spied an advert in a magazine, I immediately went online to check out the Photography Institute.
Having completed the course I got so much more out of it than I ever expected. Not only have I thoroughly enjoyed learning the ?how to? of taking great photos, but also I've learned about marketing myself, portfolios, how to find contacts and much more. Student support was very helpful, and my tutor was always prompt with replies to my questions.
I particularly enjoyed my tutor's in-depth comments on my assignments. It's been an exciting journey and I've gained a lot of confidence in the process. Where I was lost and didn't know which way to turn, I now have direction in my photography life. So far I've only dreamed about taking the plunge because I've been frightened. Frightened that I'll sink, that I'm just not 'good enough'.
I'm not expecting it to be easy and I know it's going to take some hard work, but I finally feel ready to dive in and follow my passion!
Thanks PI! ..."
...Thysje Arthur, Christchurch.
"The Photography Institute was a great course which covered all aspects of Photography. Not just taking and editing photos, but learning about cameras, lighting, lenses and more.
It has benefitted me so much. I know so much more about photography now. It made me realise that photography is more work than people think, taking a good photo takes skill and lots of practice - which I feel I have accomplished doing this course.
24/7 student support was excellent, as I could email my tutor with any problems and got a reply quickly.
This course is great because you can work full time and still complete a diploma.
The Photography Institute is amazing..."
...Dominique Ward, Wellington.
"Working full time and running a home meant I was not previously able to indulge my passion for photography.
I was initially sceptical about signing up for a course online, but any reservations I had were soon dispelled. The information gained over the 12 modules offered a sound basis and understanding of both the practical and theoretical knowledge required to take professional photographs. To say I under-utilised my camera previously is an understatement (most of my photographs were taken in auto mode to be on the safe side).
Studying online offered the flexibility to complete the assignments in my own time and the in-depth and constructive criticism and advice from the tutor was invaluable.
I have now turned my passion into an income generating hobby – thanks to the Team at the Photographic Institute!..."
...Lynn Allan, Whangarei.
"The time I have studied with The Photography Institute has been so rewarding.
I have been taking photographs for 22 years but finally have the confidence to go along with my creative ability. I started my own photography business last year but didn’t have the confidence to take this on as a fulltime vocation. I now realise that it was a lack of confidence holding me back from fully promoting my business Thanks to The Photography Institute I have now filled my toolbox with a priceless array of skills and knowledge that I know will benefit both me and my clients.
Thank you to my tutor Matt for your great feedback and amazingly quick response on questions and assignment marking. I looked forward to your comments after each assignment submission and found any criticism to be very constructive.
I would recommend The Photography Institute to anyone who is passionate about taking great photographs..."
...Laura Rutherfurd, Orewa.
"Before I began studying with The Photography Institute, I had an interest in photography and had recently purchased a camera, but I only understood the ‘Auto’ function!! However, I wanted to learn more so began this course to extend my hobby.
The fact that the course is offered totally online makes it super flexible when working full time, as it can slot in nicely with all the other commitments.
The 12 modules included cover such a huge variety of information that is practical, interesting and challenging as it extends your actual ability as a Photographer rather than just your knowledge of photography. Each module is presented clearly using easy to follow descriptions and photos. I never would have learnt all I have about photography had it not been for The Photography Institute course.
The tutors were very quick to respond to any questions that I had in regards to the current assignment or ‘photography in general’ and were very informative and constructive in their replies and assignment feedback.
At present photography is still a hobby for me, but I am now far more confident in my ability and now have all the knowledge, skills and information I will need when I transform my hobby into an exciting job. I loved this course and would do it all again if I could!!..."
...Julie-Anne Varney, Auckland.
"This course has taught me so much! When I first bought my DSLR I had no idea how to use it properly and only shot in Programme, Auto and JPEG. Now I shoot in RAW and use manual settings and other programmes on the camera! I have picked up a couple of paying jobs, which is a bonus and have had some of my photos published in the Waikato Times & the local news paper.
Also a few people have asked to purchase my photographs and I have been asked to photograph several events - weddings birthdays etc., which is very exciting. The knowledge I gained from doing this course is very useful and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Student Support are great and very quick in answering emails. My Tutor has excellent knowledge and I found him very easy to understand and loved his feedback on assignments. Thanks Matt! This course has steered me in the right direction and I will put everything I have learnt into practice. Thank you The Photography Institute..."
...Lisa Marama Murray, Te Awamutu.
"The Photography Institute course was a great way to obtain a deep understanding of photography. I have a full time job and this course allowed me to fulfil my goal of studying without having to sacrifice time.
There's a good balance between theory and practical assignments, which makes the course flow nicely.
The support received from my tutor was great and he provided with really good advice on different matters.
I would highly recommend this course for a photography newbie as much as someone who's already submerged into the photography world!"
...Juan Botindari, Auckland.
"The course was an ideal way for me to seriously improve my photographic skills. The online nature of the course allowed me to continue working full time whilst being able to study at my own pace.
The comprehensive and cost effective course content teaches from the basics of camera operation to the techniques involved in the specialist areas of photography.
What had started out as a hobby for me, where I was taking not much more than mere"snapshots", has developed into an intense interest where I am now able to create quality images through a process of correct composition and exposure, combined with effective and attractive post processing techniques.
I’ve always had a love of photography, but before undertaking this course I never would have thought that I would be able to make a living from it. I am now equipped with the knowledge and skills to allow me to enter into the photography market with confidence and look forward to the day when I take the leap
A big thank you to Fiona and Sarah for all their support over the duration of the course..."
...Paul Oellermann, Mt Maunganui.
"This course was fantastic! My basic knowledge before this course was to point and shoot and that was basically it, but after I bought my first “real” camera (SLR) and wanted to get into photography more I decided to take this course and it is honestly money well spent! They give you your own tutor so all your assignments get marked by the one person who you can also email at any time with any questions. It has opened my eyes to all the possibilities of different photos with just the change of a few settings that I was sure were put on the camera just to confuse me! The flexibility of this course is also brilliant - there’s no pressure or deadline for any one module so you can take your time on the harder ones and do the easier ones in one day if you want to - BRILLIANT!. There’s a payment option to suit all, which is hassle free and the course is really good value compared with other courses. I have uploaded my images on the internet and have been offered a job at a wedding, need I say more? This is the perfect course for anyone! You won’t regret taking it, I know I haven’t. Thanks heaps PI..."
...Saskia Langridge, New Plymouth.
"After coming out of high school I knew I wanted to pursue a career in photography but I wasn't sure how to go about it. Finding this online photography course was perfect as I live in a small town where there are not many opportunities for courses.
One of the things I really liked about it was that I could do the course when it suited me, which enabled me to work it around my job and social life. The 12 modules go in-depth and cover all you need to know about photography, from lenses, camera functions, photo editing skills, how to get work and so much more.
The comments I received from my tutor really helped me to develop and expand my knowledge as a Photographer, and doing the assignments put the whole course into action. My tutor was always very fast to reply with constructive feedback and happy to help with any difficulties I was having between assignments. The student support team was also very helpful and professional.
I now have so much more confidence when using my camera and I am excited and prepared to put my self out there and kick off a career in photography.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in photography and I encourage you to jump at the opportunity.
I invite you to have a look at my website and check out some of my work www.wix.com/kalemb/photography
Thank you so much to the team at The Photography Institute...!"
...Kalem Berntsen, Thames.
"I am a sales professional in my 40's and have had a keen interest in photography for a number of years. I've been prompted by friends for ages to make a go at being a professional Photographer and been driven myself to turn the thing I love into my profession.
This course has opened the door to my photography future. I've now set myself goals and targets to turn my hobby into a career. This won't happen overnight but my plan will ensure I've something not only to fall back on as I head to retirement but something that I can enjoy at the same time.
I've taken my new Digital SLR and thoroughly learned how to make it work for me and I can say I know what every button does!
Great course and I suggest that if you've taken great photos for years and want to take it a step further then you should take this course as well..."
...Andrew Tierney, Wellington.
"One word to describe this Course ... AMAZING!
I have just received my Diploma in Photography and couldn’t be more proud of myself!
Signing up to The Photography Institute was one of the best things I could have done. It has helped me to pursue my passion for photography and as a result I am now working for a professional Photographer in my town - I couldn’t be happier! I even managed to finish the course while being a busy working mum.
I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wonderful tutor and the help of the student support team. They were all very honest and encouraging and have definitely helped my skills and confidence grow.
A massive “Thank You” to my tutor Sarah Palmer for all your wonderful support and advice, I would not be the Photographer I am today without your help.
George Seper has written an amazing Course, also mixed in with a bit of humour, which made it that much more interesting.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who has a passion for Photography and would like to take it that much further. It really does give you everything you need to know about Photography..."
...Jax Best, Stratford.
"I was at the end of my 7th form year at High school having no idea where I was headed for life after school. I didn’t want to jump head first into Uni and have a massive student loan, so I decided on a working ‘gap’ year with the job as a Journalist for a local paper. Long story short, I still had a bit of time on my hands and didn’t want to lose the study bug, just in case I decided on a Uni path later on. After a bit of searching I came across the Photography Institute. It was perfect, being able to study in your own time is great if you’re working or in other study. Also having straight forward contact with your tutor makes things so much easier if you have questions about assignments or need direction.
The course also covers all the different aspects of Photography so is able to meet anyone’s needs. Overall it has helped me gain confidence with the photojournalism I am doing as my occupation and it has also opened my eyes to other aspects I will hopefully use later on in my career. So Thank-you Photography Institute and watch this space!..."
...Amber Sutherland, Waikato.
"I decided to take this course because I had always wanted to get into photography and even though I had a pretty expensive camera, I wasnt too sure how to use it properly. I am a very busy person with multiple jobs and some pretty big responsibilities. I wanted to study photography, but just didn’t have the time to go back to school. This was the first website that I could find offering extramural study with great success and a significant reputation.
This course was just fantastic in that it allowed me to study when I wanted to, submit assignments when I could and get some really good feedback from my tutor. Everyone was very professional and I felt so comfortable asking questions and submitting work. This course has also helped me figure out what kind of photography I want to get into and how to make the most of that field in the real world.
The modules were really interesting to read, very imformative and easy to understand. I really enjoyed studying and now look forward to taking my first steps into the professional photography industry.
Thank you so much to my tutor, the student support crew and everybody involved in writing the modules and running this course...I had a great time and wouldn’t be where I am without you..."
...Sasha Donald, Ohakune.
"THANK YOU! George Seper, Matthew Evans and the team at The Photography Institute. This course is the way to go.
The course has been designed so that anyone who has the passion of photography can do what they love. Being able to study at my own pace, from the comfort of my own home and online made following my dream of being a Photographer simple really.
I recommend this to anyone who loves photos and loves to take them.
For me, the highlight of the course was learning what my camera was capable of doing and most of all, how to use it. I used to shoot in AUTO - I now only ever shoot in Manual. Before this course my photographs would have been unrecognisable shot in a Manual mode.
I also have to mention Matt, my tutor. My assignments were marked so quickly and the feedback I received with each of them was personal and helpful - I especially liked the compliments.
For the first time in my life I'm really excited about something. I've finally found what I am supposed to do and it’s all thanks to the Photography Institute..."

"This course has opened my eyes up to my own potential as a Photographer. Thank you Photography Institute!
I was a little apprehensive to begin with. I thought I couldn't possible learn photography skills online but was I mistaken. The level of teaching here is phenomenal from the Modules through to the assignments and finishing with the comments from the Tutor. I love that the Tutors themselves are all professional Photographers and they KNOW what they are talking about! Even if you are a beginner - it is all explained so well and to back it all up with a fabulous page on Facebook is wonderful. You can chat with others facing the same issues, concerns or successes as yourself as well as looking at their work if they choose to share.
Working online meant that I could do the course in my own time and took away all time restrictions - a fabulous way to learn.
The support staff have been brilliant and I commend the Photography Institute on a fantastic course in every aspect. Teaching us how to use Photoshop was worth its weight in gold!
As an amateur Photographer I now feel that I have gained the necessary skills and confidence to put myself out there, take risk, get the perfect shot! I couldn't have done it without PI. Thanks a million!
...Nikki Page, Whakatane.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the Photography Institute course and am more than a little sad to be finished!
There are many, many fantastic qualities about this course but for me the most important are firstly the sheer range of topics covered - everything from the technical aspects of the camera to building a portfolio, seeking work and everything in between. The second thing is the flexibility offered – being able to progress through the modules in my own time while working a 40 hour week. After deciding to study photography, I looked at many options in my area but this was the only course I found that offered these benefits.
David, my tutor, has been great all the way through, marking assignments super quickly and providing really useful feedback which I've been able to learn a lot from. Likewise, the student support team has always been very responsive and helpful.
I started the course as a beginner, having just bought my first DSLR and unsure of its many functions...I am now confident using manual mode for all occasions and have had a great time developing my own style and exploring the different fields before deciding to specialise in architectural photography.
Working full-time in an architectural practice, the course has opened up opportunities for me to incorporate what I've learned into my job. I have photographed completed projects and am hoping that someday soon my images will be used and published by the company to promote their work. Fingers crossed!..."
...Claire Hamilton, Auckland.
"The information and assignments contained in the course were of a standard that would be hard to top in any tertiary institution worldwide. The course material was both thorough and written in a manner that was easy to digest. George Seper's wit and personality made the course fun and entertaining!
The technical elements of photography are hard to learn and the PI course enabled me to do this at my own pace, when and where I wanted. This was invaluable as I have 3 small children. The PI course has given me the confidence to pursue a career in photography and I have 2 engagement shoots coming up in the next few weeks! Thank you PI!..."
...Louise Donnelly-Davey, Queenstown.
"How often do we hear of people who are so passionate about their careers that they say they can’t believe they’re being paid to do what they love? For me, this course has not only opened the door to this being a reality – it has also given me the opportunity to rekindle the photographic creativity and passion for photography that have been suppressed for many years. Instead of imagining greener pastures over the fence, I’ve now had the courage to jump over and start exploring the possibilities.
The course content covered all the topics and areas that I needed, and provided me with links to further learning on-line and through print media. The assignments were highly practical, thought-provoking at times, challenging and above all lots of fun! Re-reading the prospectus makes me realise that my expectations were not just fulfilled but exceeded. Everything from aperture and lighting through to creating a studio and a professional portfolio – it was all there.
Now I’m starting my own photography business, something that, prior to undertaking the course, was always over the fence. I want to specialise in people and events, but have also uncovered a passion for travel (well, why not?!) and unusual architecture. In the meantime I’ve had great experience with assignments covering sports, corporate and social events, as well as weddings.
Underpinning this experience are two key components of the Photography Institute – advice and support. Many thanks to my tutor Fiona, who answered my questions, encouraged me, critiqued my assignments and gave me so many tips and suggestions. The student support from Sarah has been outstanding right from the start – access and response couldn’t have been better. The work experiences Sarah made possible through the Weetbix triathlons were invaluable and exhilarating.
Thanks everyone at the Institute – you’ve given me the skills and desire to pursue a new career and direction..."
...Andrew Bennett, Papakura.
"Fantastic course, would recommend to anyone pro or amateur!
I have always had a passion for photography and on returning from overseas in 2007 I set about starting my own photography business. I mainly specialise in Weddings and Portraits but enjoy other areas such as landscapes, after some time I decided that I wanted to do a course as there were some aspects of photography that I found a bit confusing and wanted some formal training. I was very happy to find The Photography Institute as I have a baby and also with my photography jobs it didn't leave me a lot of time for studying. With this course I could study at my own leisure and not be rushed therefore getting everything out of the readings and assignments.
The material was great and is broken down to different modules so that you don't get overloaded with too much information at once, my tutor was great and there to answer any questions promptly and gave great feedback from my assignments. There is also a Face book page where you can talk to other students and discuss assignments etc, I found this very helpful. My photos have improved remarkably and I have much more confidence in my cameras and using them creatively. I was always a bit scared to use the Manual mode on my camera, but now I have the skills and knowledge to manipulate my camera to give the desired results. You are welcome to check out my website at www.melmasonphotography.com.
Thanks to everyone at The Photography Institute!..."
...Mel Mason, Auckland.
"My decision to undertake The Photography Institute on-line course came about when I was looking for information on digital photography. Like many people, I was only using my DSLR camera on auto settings and really didn't know what to do when problems occurred.
I found The Photography Institute web page very appealing and immediately sought more info. Reading what was being offered really interested me, although undertaking a course of study was not my intention at the outset.
However, when I considered it, doing a course on-line meant that I didn't have to travel, I could work at my own pace and it would hopefully up-skill me, which I seriously needed.
Although I have used a camera for many years, I had never grasped the basic principles of photography and was impressed how the course offered this grounding and then worked into a full understanding and use of the digital medium. Little did I know just how much I was going to get out of it. From camera skills, Photoshop applications, to identifying how and where I would apply my new found skills, my learning curve has been immense.
I particularly enjoyed how the course material was presented in such a personable way. Each module was a challenge, but I always felt supported by the comments from my tutor and looked forward to the next module.
Having completed the course, I know I have a lot of work to do to consistently put into practice what I have learned, but I find I am approaching this next phase with confidence and excitement about the possibilities ahead of me.
Thank you to all those people involved in making this happen...."
...Juliet Cooke, Auckland.
"What a brilliant course. Before I started this course I had very little knowledge of how to even use a DSLR camera. The information contained in the modules was fantastic and informative and has helped me gain an understanding of cameras and light, angles and DOF and a lot of things i would never have even thought possible. I have gained more confidence from doing this course and have been able to get out there and get work as a result. One of my pictures i took during this course (an actor) is soon to be used in an art exhibition at the Wallace Art Gallery and will be for sale. This is a great honor for me.
Doing this course gave me the skills i needed to get that all important shot. My tutor was awesome and always answered any question i had no matter how silly I thought they were. My tutors comments and assignments was really helpful and guided me to better pictures. Student support were also really good and fast to respond to any questions asked. I have benefited from this course in such a great way, I get so inspired now by everything I see and I now want to learn even more and have the knowledge of where to look and go and what to do to further myeslf and my career as a Photographer.
I would recommend this course to everybody, its a great step to becoming an awesome Photographer..."

"What an amazing journey. I'm a new DSLR owner and wanted to learn everything there is to know about my new camera. I had 4 years of film photography in High School where my passion for photography began, and doing this course made it so easy, and it was so flexible to learn all I needed to take my photography to a new level. I not only feel like a professional photographer, but can talk like one too! No doubt there were challenges throughout the course, but nothing that couldn't be overcome, learnt and accomplished thanks to the wealth of knowledge and experience passed on to me through the module information, encouragement from the tutor and student support (there is also an awesome network of other students on Facebook). I guess you could say I became a little addicted (in a good way) to experimenting with my camera and learning more about my specific field of photography.
I am currently setting up a website as a result of this course, specialising in child and family photography, and have nine customers waiting for the price list to book me in! Completing this course has equipped me with all the skills, confidence and professionalism needed to get out there and make my passion a job; and what better job to have!
Check out “Sight for Sore Eyes” on Facebook, and look out for my website, coming soon!
